Capacity Building & formation of a Federation of Mandals
A federation of mahila mandals based in Mumbai, named Hukook-e-niswan (rights of women) was formed in 2005. Over 20 mahila mandals (Community based women’s organizations) as well as individuals are members of the federation, which aims to provide the grassroot voice to the campaign for gender-just reforms in Muslim family law. WRAG’s efforts have been to strengthen the capacities of women to actively participate in the campaign, initially through the mahila mandals and after 2005 through the Federation.
